It will be the same as it is now. Not a damn thing will get done and Obama will try to use EO's to push through what he can.

No, there will be debate and votes cast in the Senate. That's something that hasn't happened for 4 years.

From the WSJ today.
quote:

Wyoming Republican John Barrasso kept a running tally of Mr. Reid’s amendment blockade through July. In the previous 12 months Senators introduced 1,952 amendments—1,105 from Republicans and 847 from Democrats. Mr. Reid blocked all but 19.

Reid has avoided debate and votes to protect his Senators for years. It's time to have the upper house be accountable again.

You know, this is a great question. Republicans are portrayed as being "the Party of NO." Why don't they get together and prioritize a list of action items? Rather than criticize things, offer solutions and a roadmap to get America back on track.

I know it wasn't perfect, but I liked the Contract with America back in 1994 when Republicans became the majority Party in the House.

quote:

Proponents say the Contract was revolutionary in its commitment to offering specific legislation for a vote, describing in detail the precise plan of the Congressional Representatives, and broadly nationalizing the Congressional election. Furthermore, its provisions represented the view of many conservative Republicans on the issues of shrinking the size of government, promoting lower taxes and greater entrepreneurial activity, and both tort reform and welfare reform. Critics of the Contract describe it as a political ploy and election tool designed to have broad appeal while masking the Republicans' real agenda and failing to provide real legislation or governance.

quote:

The fate of the proposals in the Contract were mixed with some becoming law while some failed to pass the House or the Senate or were vetoed by President Clinton.

Not perfect, but I like a plan and it would be a good start.

what will the major pieces of legislation be that they send to Obama's desk for a signature?

I have heard almost no talk of what the GOP has as a plan if, or when, they take back the Congress

Personally, I will be ecstatic if gridlock results in no law being created for two years.

While everyone is bitching about partisanship in D.C. causing nothing to get done, I believe it is a testament to the genius of the drafters of the Constitution.

I doubt anything of substance will arrive on obama's desk in the next 2 years. If they send something that obama will sign, then obama can claim victory and that is somethng the republicans cannot stomach.

So its going to be trash that they send him, knowing he won't sign it.

I think it backfires on them in 2016, as HRC will point to legislatin that went to obama's desk and say - would you have signed it? The republican will have no choice but to say yes.

And then HRC will be able to say - candidate XYZ will gut medicare/social security/or whatever else gets sent.

It will be a bunch of symbolic crap that has zero chance of passing.

Which actually isn't a bad thing since the less they pass, the happier I am.
