There are dozens and dozens of holidays out there that you probably don't congratulate and celebrate with every believer out there. It's unrealistic to think someone can know them all and be able to spit that out on demand to every necessary person that they meet.
It would be pretty racist for me to look at an Asian and assume they celebrate Dongzhi anyway
