Most of this wishcasting about societal collapse is just a masturbatory fantasy for most of you, particularly people like Roger. His heroes living off the grid are for the most part people who couldn’t hack it in society, so they run away from their problems. To make themselves feel better, they fantasize about society collapsing and them being the only ones who can survive.
