Plenty of areas in the South were the same house in a decent neighbor hood will cost that. A 1400 SQFT 2BR @ BA house I once owned in South Baton Rouge last sold for $365K, pretty typical.

At 53, I’m well familiar. We have this city in GA named Atlanta where 355k won’t buy you jack in a good area. There are also areas in the South where you can live like a king for 355k as opposed to NYC and I’m glad to be from such an area. There’s no need to down vote over lifestyle preference.

I’m surprised she didn’t tell them all about how her brother was in an NYC street gang and that she fell for a member of a rival gang and their quest to bring peace to the feud lead to tragic circumstances.

Yorktown Heights in Westchester is 40 miles north of NYC.

An average 1200 square foot apartment in Manhattan would rent for $7100 a month.*

Cost of low income apt in the Bronx - about $761 before govt assistance allowance.

This.

Not that there's anything wrong with that at all. Her little victimhood narrative is hilarious though.

In the last 9 years of my existence in NYC I think I can count on one hand the number of times I have been in a 1200 ft2 apt.

Makes perfect sense. I had a 1700 sq ft rent control apt (30 West 70th) for $550 a month. Yes, many moons ago. Goes for about 10K a month now.

Found a floor plan of it (ain't the internet great)

AOC grew up in a very modest house. Pic posted here previously. It wasn't the Bronx. But it was not Westchester-wealthy by any means.

downvoted because does not fit the op agenda.

I lived in Manhattan for 10 years, and saw quite a few apartments over 1200 sq ft. (lived in a few). I see there are 2300 1200+ apartments currently for rent in Manhattan.

Are you a workaholic? you need to get out more?

Rental website filtered for over 1200sq ft:

I lived in Queens for a while and never came close to a apartment that size.

I don't know much about Queens, but in Manhattan there are thousands of them.

In the article (linked below), it shows that nearly all "sold" (rather than "rented") apartments are larger than 1200 square feet. And it wouldn't surprise me that nearly all the old luxury apartment buildings (with large apartments) have gone the condo route.
