My take. Burn the ships. $36 trillion in debt is going to be a bigger problem if we don't get it under control.
Even if I 100% agree with you, explain to me how tariffs are the fix? This country has to spend within its means.
All evil China has a deficit to GDP ratio of 4% and they’re the largest exporter in the world.
We’re conflating two separate issues.

In my mind there are two seemingly realistic outcomes, maybe both are true
1.) Tariffs will raise prices, because business taxes are usually passed on to the consumer.
2.) If the United States runs a massive trade deficit for an extended period of time we are exporting our wealth.
I’m sure if I’m an investor or a Fortune 500 CEO I don’t like tariffs because the past economic policies have worked really well for me.
If I’m the average American worker, especially one on the younger side, I want to try something different because it’s clear the past economic policies haven’t worked so well for me.
This is why opinions on the Trump’s tariff policies are so varied along clear socioeconomic lines.

I voted for Trump to put America first and make us great again. I'll stand by my decision and trust him to do so.

They wanted to close the border as well.

I can freely admit I do not know where these tariffs will take us. I'm highly skeptical they will work based on my extremely limited knowledge of global economics, but economics is not exact science.
My issues with tariffs fall in two basic categories:
1. I believe the tariffs are illegal. I know Congress has delegated a lot of tariff authority to POTUS, but I believe these actions exceed that authority. Does anyone think our Constitution was designed to give one person that type of power? I'm frankly surprised there has only been 1 lawsuit filed over this so far.
2. Even if tariffs turn out to be the answer to everything that is wrong in this country, these specific tariffs are illogical and damaging to our nation on the world stage. First we had the Canada and Mexico tariffs (also illegal and a breach of Trump's own trade agreement) that were on, then off, then on again, then changed, etc. Then there's the constantly changing China tariffs. Then we finally get these global tariffs thst seem random, but are actually based on some novel theory equating trade deficits with tariffs rates.
Like I said, I don't know what will happen, but I'm skeptical. I honestly do not believe these tarrifs will still be in place a month from now.

I saw a post here a few days ago, saying we’d all be pissed if Obama did this.
And that’s correct. Marxists don’t understand economics at all, so I’d be pissed if Obama did it.

He is a 100% free market believer and I get that, However, when countries cheat like paying slave labor to undercut us on price, I draw the line. An American worker can't survive on crumbs. That said, labor unions are anti free trade. Get rid of them and there is real American worker competition in those industries. They'll make a fair wage, but nothing like they are paid right now.

Every blue collar job in the country is affected negatively foreign countries unfair trade with the US. You don't have to be an economist to see this.
We have been getting screwed for years and it's gotten to the point we're we can't survive going down the same road we've been going down. You could write a book on all the ways China screws us. They are by far the worst in the world.

Tariffs are an investment in sovereignty.
