What percentage of people riding around the lake, waving a flag, or listening to Lee Greenwood actually WANT to be free?
I might be getting too pessimistic about people and future.

We all want to be free, we simply have different defintions of what that means.
For folks like Jeauxbleaux and Rex, freedom means freedom from unaffordable goods and the price system. For them, the ultimate expression of freedom is freedom from economic want.
For folks on the right, freedom means freedom from excessive government coercion in economic affairs.

Love it or leave it. You can go be a Commie if you don't like Lee Greenwood

Neal Boortz, is that you ?
He hated on "Independence Day" for YEARS for just that reason.

I just dislike all the drunk drivers and people popping fireworks for weeks on end.

Not me. It's probably my favorite holiday.

The IRS scandal has me more than a little upset.
I did not envision that happening.
It's one thing to fear the IRS ... simply because they are the IRS ... and a person might be a little "lax" when filing taxes and hope it's all good.
It's something else to wonder if a simple opinion, contribution, or support ... might trigger a Democrat-led IRS inquisition with the goal of destroying you financially.
But I will still enjoy this holiday ... my favorite of all American holidays. Everything about having fun, relaxing, and being free ... nothing about gifts, in-laws, etc.
Drink beer, etc. Eat good food. Be merry. Shoot fireworks.
Life is good.

Love the 4th.
Fireworks tonight
Parades tomorrow
Soap Box Derby, live music, sand castle contests, etc.
Got to meet Sen Begich today. He met in the garage that one of our companies own. Invited people from the Brewery and a couple other businesses to talk. He talked a bit then answered some questions. Don't agree with everything he stands for, but impressed with him coming to meet us in humble surroundings and talking, even some one on one time.
Very Alaskan setting. In a garage, in the picture present are a dog, commercial fisherman, lodge owner, heliskiing guide, mechanic, artist and a brewery owner.

freedom means different things to different folks these days.
I'm not cynical about the 4th though because of what freedom I perceive the founders to have stood for and the freedoms I perceive to have been fought for that caused the 4th to exist as a holiday.

My pessimism is rooted in the steadfast knowledge that the men of 1776 would projectile vomit at what this nation has become and the subjugation that we are willing to tolerate.

This is my point.
Can anyone say that America is becoming a freer nation overall as time goes on? That we have more freedom today than 15 years ago?
I assume it depends on what is important to you, and less so on the vision of the framers outlined in the Constitution.

I used to be, but after world travel I'm not. There are so many freedoms we have that we simply take for granted and we should fight the slightest infringement of those rights
I imagine most of the planet can't relate to a bunch of booze,
Chicks in bikinis, smoked sausage/burgers/other bad for you foods, fireworks, etc...
We really take a lot for granted

Holy shite. I never thought me and cc would actually agree on something.
Now if I can just get him to renounce conservativism.
