Any Freemasons on this board?

I understand a lot of you are Catholic and obviously not a Freemason. I’ve been contemplating pursuing becoming a Freemason and was curious about others experiences with the organization.

I’m an entered apprentice.
Never really pursued it further.
As for the lodges I have visited, it’s pretty much a club for old guys to get together and eat sh!tty spaghetti every few weeks.

Supposedly the average age of membership is 41. That could just be a tactic to encourage younger men to join for all I know. The Freemason that has subtly been dropping bits of information to encourage me to join is late forties. He’s never outright asked me to join, as that’s not how it works from what I understand.
Would you say it has been worth your time for the most part?

Actually the religion that claims the title of having the most Freemason members in the US is Southern Baptist

Had a buddy who was a preacher's kid. A group of Masons approached his dad, wanting him to join, but they can't come out and ask, so one of them said "We'd like to call you 'brother'".
My buddy's dad replied "I'd rather you call me 'Son of a bitch'".

I’m mid 40s and can assure you that I am by far the youngest person at any of the events I’ve attended.
I suspect there’s a huge gap between paid members & active members.

The history of freemasonry is cool if you can wade through all the conspiracy nonsense that is wrong. Each lodge should have a charitable venue that they support.
Many of your college fraternities and other fraternal organizations are offshoots of FM.
It can be challenging intellectually and fun if you have a good lodge that is active.
Cool to know you belong to the same fraternity as George Washington.
Don't expect Dan Brown novel though.

I was but stopped going to lodge about 3 years ago. I liked my lodge, its the oldest in Kentucky (actually was Virginia lodge #23 when it was founded). They do a good bit of charity work.
If you live in a fairly decent sized city, you might have luck finding a good lodge, but a lot of small town lodges are just an old guys club where its pretty much just social hour.

I don’t, but the lodge here definitely has influence over local politics. The charitable giving and fundraising aspects and alleged personal growth through the different degrees is interesting to me. Not to mention the century’s worth of history.

How much did it cost you to join? I haven’t asked about membership fees or anything like, but assumed it was a few thousand a year.

Belief in a supreme being is a requirement for membership. The idea that Freemasonry is a substitute for religion and against god is a myth.
