My dad was an Oddfellow, always thought about checking it out.
Good friend (and Southern Baptist) wanted to get me into the Mason's Lodge locally, but I was busy with 2 sons in travel baseball, so I never pursued it.
The various religions that oppose the Masons and Oddfellows makes it interesting to me. Catholics oppose them. My FIL, who is Assembly of God vehemently opposes them. Rarely do you see Catholics and Assembly folks agreeing on anything, even the color of the sky. Then I know several Baptists that are Masons. At least around here, what one religion opposes, another often supports.

The following quote is an explanation of my above post.
quote:
The believer is under Divine ownership, being the peculiar possession of the Lord Jesus Christ. He has therefore no right to subject himself to such mutilating curses. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 says, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.”

I'm sure I'm just ignorant, but I'm not understanding your explanation. Where are the mutilating curses?

I had no idea the Oddfellows were even still around. It is interesting that so many different denominations oppose the Masons. I suspect it has more to do with the fear of losing members than anything the Masons are actually doing.

I’ve been contemplating pursuing becoming a Freemason and was curious about others experiences with the organization.
All the real fun & games apparently don't kick into high gear until the 32nd and 33rd degree Jedi Knighthood.

Matthew 6:24 (KJV):
"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

By the square, by the level, by the plumb rule, by the compasses... and by the all-seeing eye.

I don't know if they still are. My dad was in a lodge in California in the 60's and 70's.

Not unlike Scientology, in that regard.

The idea that Freemasonry is a substitute for religion and against god is a myth.
Freemasonry IS a "Religion".
And it IS "against" the God of Abraham.

I love the uniformed and ignorant opinions this thread has about Masonry.
I joined because my grandfather and two great grandfathers were Masons. I know it is a sin to join as well, as Catholics we are not supposed to joined.

The real PITA is having to listen to modern day Pharisees pontificate about Freemasonry of which they know very little in an attempt to make themselves literally holier than thou. Other than that, you get out what you put in. If they sacrifice children to Ba’al in the Scottish Rite, my home lodge is waaay off! I mean, we pray together, read the Bible in open lodge, support our charity, the widows and orphans and can depend on each other for anything and everything. Worst….evildoers….ever.

Well, yeah. You’re supposed to be paying dues to the Knights of Columbus.

Seriously?
Read up a bit on Albert Pike.

Each lodge should have a charitable venue that they support.
True in many cases for the "rank & file"; these local acts of charity and philanthropy do also happen to coincidentally provide convenient cover and great PR for top hierarchy. By design.

Ironical, coming from someone with a sig line that says: "Condemnation without investigation is the height of ignorance".
