Believe it or not, it starts to get easier. Commanding captains is hard. You do a lot of mentoring. But commanding lieutenant colonels is much easier. You just establish the tone and tenor and let them make the organization work. Figuring out how to make the best use of your command sergeant major is hard. No matter what the level. Very much like a marriage, trying to make a relationship work. Defining roles.

Out of curiosity....in this case, where the woman is wearing a mask, and is in combat clothing, charging a man with what looks like every intention of attacking him (After all, her "commrades" are doing just that)

Run away
Defend himself

95% of the time, I agree with you. Very few times should a man ever hit a woman. But the group she was with and is a part of take pride in giving out beat downs. I have no problem with the guy defending himself in this situation. One on one where they are arguing? the guy should walk away. When groups are beating each other? The women should not be there, unless they are prepared for the consequences.
A man shouldn't ever shoot a woman was the norm, too. but now we have women in the military. It's the gentlemanly thing to do, but if you don't shoot her, she darn well will shoot you.

Otherwise, this group will populate their entire ranks with women and beat the living daylights out of everybody they come in contact with.
Sorry. but it's a fact. You don't go to a fight...dressed for a fight....attack people, and then act surprised when you get hit back. If she wants to be treated like a lady, then she should act like one.

Too many women today want to be just like men. When I got married I wanted a woman who I could take out in public and not be embarrassed. In return, I promised my wife I would attempt to act like a human being in public, too.

Well when you hold a "protest" rally for the sole reason to intimidate, be disruptive, and instigate fights don't be suprised if you get your arse kicked. Don't want to get punched out, don't start a fight.
