Yeah the regulations on trucks in Cali is ridiculous all the way down to leaving mud on the road.

They are purposefully making it not profitable.

my daily experience, this just isn’t the case. The vast majority of the containers I’m running out of LA/Long Beach are staying within state, with the exception being the straight dray runs to Phoenix. Dual transactions are becoming more common but it’s all about turn around time coming in and leaving the port, that is the biggest issue at hand from my perspective.

I would think having smaller companies without the capital to refit their entire fleet of trucks with new ones and not being able to help ease the problem is a problem.

Why are we buying things that have to be shipped here?

This is a lesson that the US should take to heart. If we ever have a global war we would be f—d. When shipping lanes are compromised, we won’t be able to manufacture the weapons needed to fight effectively. We haven’t had a naval war since WWII, if we lose a couple of ships we don’t have the means to replace them (steel, chips, etc.)

There's also a problem of the SoCal port not operating like their global rivals such as Dubai, Singapore, and Rotterdam which unload and upload cargo from all over 24/7, something Biden touted yesterday as something he'd gotten fixed. Port experts, speaking to the Washington Post, say it's not a fix, given that truckers have no warehouses open at the wee hours to take their container shipments to

25 years ago I worked on container ships that called on Rotterdam. Rotterdam at that time was 80% automated. It took about the same amount of time to load/unload the ship. While the human operated ports might have had more lifts per hour, over the entire port visit it about equaled out factoring in shift changes etc.

Yep. Trump would bust the long jam in short order. Biden just wants his pudding pop.

If you guys want actual news go here. Two big things hurting this is the Longshoreman's Union charging crazy rates for 24 hour operations. $65/hr for unskilled labor to start. Plus there isn't much in the way storage after landing the material shore side

But the fact only a limited number of trucks can uplift them, is why they're stacking up and no amount of overtime will solve the issue.

Sounds like we need to get 10 of these trucks, and go to Cali and make some loads. Would make lots of ca$h.

Sounds like your shipping out of SoCal right now with those rates

we pulled back on our Cali shipping. Increased prices to offset losses. Ca-OR, 1k miles = 4k to the truck.

that's insane
