He starts out saying he thinks Trump's walk back is weak and not believable. But he ends with this:

The Russian hacking made no difference. To repeat an argument I made during the campaign, nine out of ten people (at least) in America have no idea who John Podesta is; to buy the Democratic theory, you’d have to believe that the emails of virtually unknown Democratic operatives were critical to voters, but Mrs. Clinton’s own thousands of classified and unaccounted-for emails were of no moment. That’s silly.
Just as important, Putin is a sophisticated, cunning man. He surely does not delude himself into believing he can actually determine the outcome of an American election. If you look at how Putin meddles in Western elections, his pattern is to back losing factions and stoke friction. His goal is to foment discord. He may say he wanted Trump to win — after all, he knows that saying so causes still more controversy. But he didn’t support Trump because he wanted Trump to win; he supported Trump because he was sure Trump would lose.
The idea was to make life as difficult as possible for the fledgling Hillary Clinton presidency. Like other expert observers, Putin did not believe Trump was going to win. His influence operation to divide American society has succeeded beyond his wildest dreams because he has gotten media and Democratic-party help that would never have materialized if Clinton had won, as everyone was so certain she would.

You'd think if there was some kind of cheating/collusion going on, they would have figured out a way to make sure they won the popular vote too. I guess the cybersecurity in the poverty stricken districts that Clinton carried by gigantic margins was just that much stronger.

So what? There was still interference in the election process.I’ve said over and over that the degree to which it helped Trump isn’t the issue. The issue is Russian aggression that Trump wants to ignore because HE thinks it taints his victory. Plus, I think it’s likely that that Putin has something he can use against Trump now or in the future.

I think Obama sat by and let Putin annex Crimea because Putin had something on him. Whatever, maybe one of us is right.

Dims have played into Putin’s plan beyond his wildest dreams

Common sense. If you are a competitor, you want a weak adversary. Putin & China knew the Clintons could be bought, and were easily blackmail-able. Trump is/was a wild-card. Putin definitely wanted Hillary as the President. Much easier to deal with, just had to grease her palms with speech money for Bill, and Uranium deals.

Trump shouldn't be walking back anything. He should be lashing out harder.

You can probably thank his idiot son in law for that disgrace today. I hope he's railing him as we speak.

Joe Scarborough "knows" Putin has something on Trump; he was screaming that point on his TV show. You people have gone completely mad.

Well why isn't Putin using it now when Trump has done the following as President towards his regime?
1.) Expelled more diplomats than Obama.
2.) Repteadly bombed their client state in Syria.
3.) Sold weapons and technology to Ukraine.
4.) Undercutting their oil and gas market by shipping natural gas to eastern Europe.
5.) Ripped up the Iran deal which was a boon to Russia given that Iran is their ally.
6.) Killed hundreds of Russian operatives in Syria.
7.) Closed the Russian consulate in seattle.

Think about it. Putin would rather have a billionaire, never-sleeping, genius, who can't be bought, non-PC talking, gun-loving, military/police loving man as USA President OR 70 something Y/O woman, who can barely walk without help, needs lots of naps, lecherous husband, history of financial and sexual scandals, who is prone to seizure-like behavior.
Yep.....that makes a lot of sense!

True. But the help is less of Putin and more of this:
