Very true and very evident by the Hong Kong protests waiving American flags.
I thought the lack of coverage these protests received was disgusting and fueled by DC and MSM being cuckhold by Xi and the Chinese $'s.
Trump and any politicians missed a huge opportunity here for unity by failing to give this the attention it deserved while putting the historical context in place of what it is they're fighting for and why American values are so important.

This is too oversimplified. The handouts and giveaways are definitely a problem, but those people can be turned - teach/help them provide for themselves and you bring them to your cause (at least some of them).
But, the Democrats increasingly want the government to enforce speech/thought codes and take the rights away from others. That march to tyranny is a much, much bigger threat to the idea of America.

I have a theory that democrats believe freedom is inherent, not preserved by advocating, demanding and protecting it. It's not actively on their minds, as if they have no idea that our freedoms can be challenged and assumed by an enemy. The live in a utopian mindset which allows them to forsake the fundamentals to focus on trivial crap like child transgenderism. So it's natural that they're manipulated often by freedom leeches like Obamacare and they have no clue what's really at stake..

People who are true blue Democrats will deny the Dim party is slowly eroding every American's personal freedoms. 40 years ago this question would have been answered by the vast majority of both parties with the same answer.....the most important role of government is to ensure law and order with the protection of personal freedoms. The Democrat party began to die in the 60's and it's officially dead in 2020......it's now more appropriate and descriptive to call it the Dim Marxist party.

We tend to forget to mention the things that seem to be a "given" in the equation. For whatever reason, Liberals seem to see freedom as a "given," while Conservatives do not.
Clearly, it is not a "given," though I doubt it is at nearly the risk that you believe to be the case.
