Americans can legally download 3-D printed guns starting Aug. 1

WASHINGTON - Gun-rights activists have reached a settlement with the government that will allow them to post 3-D printable gun plans online starting August 1.

The settlement ends a multi-year legal battle that started when Cody Wilson, who describes himself as a post-left anarchist, posted plans for a 3-D printed handgun he called "The Liberator" in 2013.

The settlement

The settlement, which is dated June 29, says that Wilson and Defense Distributed can publish plans, files and 3-D drawings in any form and exempts them from the export restrictions. The government also agreed to pay almost $40,000 of Wilson's legal fees and to refund some registration fees.

Freedom is beautiful.

Government is a necessary dick-punch...you should limit the dick-punching to the smallest amount possible.

Big win for freedom.. because it will apply to a LOT of DIY stuff in the future.

But criminals are probably celebrating too.

I think 3D printing has the greatest economic potential out of all the technology that’s on the not too distant horizon. You could turn American households into small scale manufacturers which could cause a renaissance for small businesses.

Because I am not an anarchist. I am not willing to "go off the grid and live in the forest, etc". Gov is necessary

A coworker her already has his 3D printer, and the plan to print a Liberator pistol.

A few people here are also into making their own AR-15 lower receivers using 80% lowers. I'll be ordering my own jig set to work on 80% lowers in September.

However, I have no plans to ever fire a weapon that has a plastic chamber.

Cody Wilson is a great Patriot. This is a nice philosophical win for him after a decade of challenging hard work. Hope he continues to show ridiculous the legalise of our government is and how many inside use power to abuse those who will challenge it.

Pretty sure that lingo originated in the deep south. Otherwise it would be called a "router template" or something similar.

I can’t decide whether I agree with this or think he’s an attention whoring troll.

I’ll give him this though: dude has some great marketing skills.

It will be interesting watch this play out. How long will the govt allow it and when will we have the first false flag crap to try to reel it in?

This is power to the people(ETA: or it could be lord of the flies) and they aren't going to like/allow it.
