We have to break away from both these fascist dominated companies. I use android, but I want to get completely away from google, so this is the beginning of my researching alternatives.

SIRIN OS
KaiOS
Ubuntu Touch
Tizen OS
Harmony OS (Communist China - Huawei) Avoid with all means. Android might be more secure...lol
Custom ROMS - uses android code, but forks it and skips many or all google services
LineageOS
Paranoid Android

Android alternatives aren't viable for 99% of the population.
You can still download apk files on Android to get around any Play Store bans, that's a much, much easier route to go than trying to get people to use these other operating systems

I'd pay good money to watch you root something and try and flash a rom.

For browsing, Firefox is a good choice. And use a VPN. Surfshark is solid and inexpensive.

I've never owned apple (other than like a 1st gen ipod) and actually consider android as an alternative.
You can get around the play store if you really want to...but it would be nice to have a robust open source linux type OS that people could use to get out of their control.

I actually have done that, but not in a few years.

Well...capitalism says if there’s a market someone will innovate to fill the gap/need
So let’s see what happens...

PureOS Linux based phones are an option.. Out of the blue and at her prompting, the Mrs. and I had this discussion last night, though she was not surprised I'd already researched it some. A little steep, $800 for a less than current spec phone, but totally Google-less... We are heavily leaning in this direction, the Pine phones seem to still be pretty rough around the edges and lacking.
There are the ones we are looking at, LINKY

Gab.com is the only one that never accepted Apple’s terms and conditions. You just have to use safari but they own their own infrastructure.

The OSOM phone will probably be the most user friendly. You'll still have access to their services without giving up your data.

The OSOM Phone will run on Android, according to Keats. But, like Essential, it will be a heavily modified, forked version of the software. There’s going to be plenty of built-in encryption and, most likely, a fair amount of storage too – it’s going to need it to store all your data, as well as your apps and games and media files.
The whole idea behind the OSOM phone is that OSOM, unlike every other phone brand on the planet, will have ZERO access to your data, unless you choose to share it with the company.

Very true!
If anyone on here uses android and doesnt know how to use the apk files I strongly advise you learn.
Also, if there's any app you want that cost money I'll help show you how to get paid apps for free.
I've actually made a pdf to show people.
Ask and thou shall receive.
Andorid is def the way to go.
Apple is cool and all but needs to be jailbroken to actually do the things andorids can do
Just spreading the love.
