And don't forget China is getting chummy with the Taliban which now controls one of the world's biggest deposits of lithium in Afghanistan

But all-electric vehicles will save the planet. The combustion engine is the devil!

The only way that they are affordable, is if you build them with slave labor and in nations with no environmental laws.

I had already adjusted it. The subject line wasn't long enough and cut it off. You don't have to defend China now. Calm down, commie.

That graphic doesn't show that GM and LG are partners on two big US plants under construction now. One in Ohio and the other in TN.

Both are bigger than Tesla's Gigafactory.

Will they be building the batteries, or just the vehicles?
I guess, even just as important, where are you going to get all of the control chips and boards for these vehicles?

Batteries.

The TN battery plant is being built next to Spring Hill Assembly while the Ohio plant will supply Hamtramck Assembly in Detroit.

Then they will be so expensive, only fairly wealthy people can have them. That's the real goal anyway.

Wasn’t this the basis for all the Republican and Democrat backed “free trade” bullshite the last 30 years (‘Mericans is lazy and want to much to work at the factory’)?

Trump changed this but the uniparty was and is on board.

Check out semi conductors now.

We have a serious supply chain vulnerability in the USA.

I think GM would be wise to build their own chip plant. Supply other manufacturers as well.

Probably union issues...

oh, absolutely, and look at what it has cost us. It's unreal what a new truck costs now. I'm glad I will never have to buy another one.

If this crisis doesn’t convince someone that the US needs to be energy independent there is simply no helping that individual.

According to BloombergNEF's first lithium-ion battery supply chain ranking, China controlled 80% of the raw material refining, 77% of the cell capacity and 60% of the component manufacturing worldwide in 2020

So, in your mind how much of the production capacity does China control?

I think it would be better, if they just built vehicles that don't have so much electronic control shite on them.

It's what people want.

Decontenting a vehicle is a great way to kill sales.
