They have spent millions, using everything they have to try and take out trump, and he’s still standing laughing at the left. The fact that they have nothing says a lot.

I'll say it again, it's hard to imagine a more divisive character than Trump. He constantly talks shite about >50% of Americans, and you fricking love it. You can't deny that.

The democrats, every last 1 of them.

Justice Kavenaugh hearings exhibit A.

"Hard to imagine" someone more divisive, right. Haha. What a naive take.

kork, here's the issue. It may be true that russia is "interfering", but it's a tiny sliver of what are very organic and real movements that cause emotional responses in people. blm, etc are real movements, and we also have evidence russia was putting out ads pushing blm. But nothing would be different without the russian interference, they are basically adding a tiny droplet of gasoline to a raging fire.

You can googgle yourself the types of ads russia puts on social media. Much of it is very very dumb. For example, a yosemite sam meme.

I am very skeptical that russian interference on social media plays some outsized role in division in america.

I think it is an extremely convenient way to rationalize the dem's loss in 2016.

"we don't need to reflect on our party and its flaws, those pesky russians and their memes are to blame"

That's all it takes a lot of the time. The smallest thing can push a typically rational person over the edge.

I agree, but it's easy to amplify the worst in people and cast anything in a negative light.

Yeah that would be expected given the summary I quoted on page 1.

Except, you know, Trump might not be president.

But it's clearly not just on social media.

Or, you know, to recognize that we are under attack by an enemy.

You think anyone on this board will reflect on their party's flaws should Trump lose?

What happens to the media when this whole thing is proven true and Trump wins re-election?

Speculation.

Hillary clinton was on track to win until the comey letter.

there really isn't any evidence, at least looking at rcp polling trends, that the email leaks altered the race. to be honest, the email leaks weren't even bad for her. They made the dnc look like shitheads (which people knew anyway), but there wasn't any corruption exposed by the podesta emails.

One other thing.

In my opinion, the steele dossier is the single most insidious example of russian interference in our political process. Not only was that document used to cast an extremely dark and powerful cloud over the trump presidency for 3 years, but it was used by fbi to obtain fisa warrants in an outrageous civil liberties scandal. We now know that the russians knew that hillary was looking for dirt on trump in russia, w now know that they knew that steele was her hired dude to look for that dirt, and we also know that steele's primary subsource, igor danchenko, was the subject of a 2009 fbi counterintel investigation for being an agent of russia.

It is incredibly likely that russia is behind both the "bombshells" dropped on the 2016 candidates: the dnc/podesta emails and the disinfo in the steele dossier.

The steele dossier went a lot further in interfering in american politics than the email hacks, in my opinion

but the maddening thing: the fbi amplified that tainted dossier, KNOWING it likely had russian disino and knowing it came from a clinton hired goon, and knowing it was unverified and the primary subsource had denied the allegations.

If fbi tossed it in trashcah, it would never have caused the nuclear bomb explostion it ended up causing.

It really is going to be a terrible trend in american politics if politicians get to use the "this damning disclosure is the result of country x pushing disinfo".

The whole Russia thing has never made sense. WTF does Russia have to gain from having Trump in office instead of a Democrat? Not a damn thing.

There actually is an angle here. With Trump not starting new military campaigns in the middle east, the Russians are more able to pursue their geopolitical interests there. I personally do not care about this at all. They can have all the sand they want as long as we stay out of it.

The angle was oligarch money for hotel deals. I see what you’re saying, but even they’re not smart enough to conjure that angle up.
