It started with them changing I-ran to Eer-an.

Yeah, the talking heads on tv overdo the latest pronunciation. They are trying to sound more worldly. Makes me think of how they changed Indian cities from Bombay to Mumbai and Calcutta to Kolkata. I think it represents indigenous people trying to take back their language from their colonizers, if you will.

And yet they never say Deutschland or Italia, instead of Germany and Italy. Isn’t that bizarre?
