We’ll never leave Germany while we’re in NATO. And when asked what NATO was for, Lord Ismay, the first NATO Secretary General summed it up:
AfD will never be allowed to win a National election, but just for the sake of argument, if they did, and indeed demanded US withdrawal, there would be heavy pressure for the US to put Germany under martial law. Britain and France would demand it. Israel too, probably. Germany will never be completely independent in our lifetimes.

Give me a link to understand this nonsense. The US wouldn't put Germany under martial law, that's German law in which they'd do it to themselves.
Nobody in the EU has any real level of independence except for Poland and maybe Hungary.

I.have to look it up.
By the time most of the high schools had closing dates, military cutbacks had us going to ball games on Japanese trains. Wide eyed Japanese to see a football team take a railroad car heading to Yokohama from Tachikawa.
We learned to speak Japanese from the High School kids trying their English on us. When I tell people about that. Four years without TV. I remembered sitting down in Seattle and putting quarters into a chair to watch American TV for about 20 minutes, while waiting for my flight to Birmingham.
