Number of Grammy's won by a female artist:
1. Alison Krauss - 27
2. Beyonce - 22
3. Aretha Franklin - 18
4. Alicia Keys - 15
4. Adele - 15
6. Ella Fitzgerald - 13
6. Leontyne Price - 13
6. Emmylou Harris - 13
9. Shirley Ceasar - 11
10 Chaka Khan - 10
The bolded are black singers (that's 7 of the top 10).

Award shows aren't necessarily based on what any normal person thinks. Certain things aren't going to be held in high esteem by the "Academies."
It's like science fiction or action movies trying to win the Academy Awards. They can hope for best editing, makeup, special effects, etc., but they'll never win Best Picture.
This is much more a snobbish thing that a racist thing. Eminem won 15 Grammys; I'm sure he won Best Album a few times.
Oh wait, no, he didn't. Best Rap Album a bit but not Best Album.

I'm not saying the Grammy's are racist or prejudiced. But with those numbers you listed, I think it's a fair question when so few black artists have won album of the year
What criteria is used to determine the winner?

Ok, now do the Best Album category. It's the most prestigious one given at the Grammy's, and the one the artists covet the most.

That's over 20% of the awards, and about 28% since 1974; that is well above their share of the population in the US. And since the UK is the other primary nation which produces Grammy winning music, it's even even higher.

And good grief, she lost to Adele! It's not like she was beat by Katy Perry. Adele is quite arguably the best singer of this generation.
They need to get over it. Adele included.

25% of them over the last 20 years. Is that far enough, or should I keep counting?
27% over the last 30 years
28% over the last 40 years
In 59 years, blacks have won 13 times, plus an additional 2 or 3 for groups that included black band members. And that doesn't include all of those who might be included as producers, engineers, mixers, etc.
Clearly, winning that award only 20~25% of the time is racist.

Yeah, I came to correct myself. Looks like what I read yesterday was completely wrong, and the Tweet has since been deleted.

The article is terrible though. The author cites the winning percentage of the "white" Allison Krauss compared to Beyonce, but if you look at the categories, Krauss is winning most of her's in the less popular genres (bluegrass, folk) and Beyonce is often nominated in the most competitive, global categories.
That's like saying Mount Union is the best team in Ohio because they have more championships than anybody else, including OSU.
