The Hill is somewhat obscuring what’s actually being pushed in this article, but it sounds like Biden wants government to control the means of production.
quote:

The White House is pushing an infrastructure bill that could reshape the discussion around capitalism as it seems to reestablish the federal government as a primary driver of how the economy should grow and function.

To their credit, they actually discuss accusations of socialism a few paragraphs down, but never call it what it is.

BTW, hearing that the government will be a “primary driver of how the economy should grow and function” reminds me of government managed economies in places like Venezuela. Not good.

It should be terrifying to everyone what these people are trying to do. Most elected republicans are quiet as church mice about it all, though.

This type of language is straight from the mouth of an academic lunatic with a PHD that knows nothing about our economy except that our government doesn't do enough. No fret it's a new way of marketing more of the same, it just hits the libs in the feels.

It places a big bet on the ability of the federal government to drive sustained economic growth at a time when confidence in institutions is low.

Democracies die when their citizens realize they can vote themselves more money.

The actual infrastructure part of the proposal does this crap even.

Think about it.

States have to hire the work crews to actually build the projects (highways, roads, bridges, etc.). The States will be reliant on the Fed $ to pay these workers and the Fed $/programs for the benefits to the workers. This makes the individual States servants of/to the Fed.

Even if States do the usual old "bid for projects" there will still be an increased demand for State employees to oversee, record, file, all the behind the scenes stuff. Payment on the contracts bidded out will be reliant on the Fed $ sent to the States. More State level employment again, also reliant on the Fed paying the State to maintain.

How many States also have state employee protections against termination? Unlike private business which can hire/fire At Will, States may have legislated worker protections making it difficult to terminate workers. In those cases it makes States long term reliant on the Fed $.

Basically the drug addiction scheme of things: Free taste of the heroin man, come on take it!
