I might receive flak from many here but after reading this I felt compelled to write is story. Please be kind and bear with me. This is for all my Marine family.
After arriving in country (RSV) we all pretty much made pledges like this one. Mine was between myself and three other Marines, all fresh out of PIMCRD. Of the four of us only three returned home still in one piece. The other lost his ultimate battle when we were in the Vietnam highlands.
The three of us returned home and went our separate ways after we were "relieved from duty". We lost Eddie in 84 from lung cancer(I'll always blame agent orange for this)..He is buried in Middleton, TN. There is just the two of us left today. Myself and "wild" Wayne who lives in Houston. It's been 47 years since the three of us came home and and we have remained in touch by phone, and occasionally in person, on holidays.. i.e. Christmas, the 4th, Memorial Day and Veterans Day just like we promised in that God forsaken land far away.
God gives you your family, you choose your friends. So choose wisely my friend and you may find a few that will last a lifetime.

I was never in the military and have a good friend who was a marine. He was on the .50 cal on a hummer and they hit an ied. Killed the 2 up front. His family was told he was killed. Found out 2 weeks later he wasn't killed it was a mistake. He just got his arms burned and a couple broken bones.

I did 8 yrs in the Corp (89-97) and I still keep in touch with a lot of my buddies, some more than others but we try and get together every couple of yrs. shite I always enjoy seeing them and catching up
Not really sure if we have a bond more than another branch that goes through real shite together, the suck is the suck
