if more people were smart enough then there would be a class action lawsuit in the billions of dollars started immediately against Dick's and Walmart over this.

You have to wonder how many people in Oregon in the 18-20 range ran out to a Walmart or Dick's or both and tried to purchase a gun so they could get turned down.

I foresee Walmart to stop selling guns in Oregon but I don't see how Dick's(Field & Stream) can do that.

Maybe over state law. They won't lose a federal case on the argument you've made.

The term “protected right” is pure Legal gobble-de-asian you are throwing out. The 14th amendment caselaw does not talk about “protected rights” at all.

Kind of. The case law talks about fundamental rights, but SCOTUS hasn’t expressly held the 2A to be a fundamental right (which is a travesty). Regardless, as you mentioned, the second amendment does not protect an individuals right to purchase a gun from a private seller.

This could turn the slippery slope.

I would think the right to own is congruent with purchasing

What is the federal age for purchase or right to own? Is this all state rights?

So lets say I own a gun you want, and that I commonly buy firearms across state lines from private buyers

I think this is a slippery slope. If you as a purchaser are crossing the state line to buy a gun, I don’t see the issue. Now if you are actively selling guns and are crossing state lines, you might be playing with fire. If you are selling 1 or 2, I don’t see an issue, but if you are selling dozens of guns each each and doing so by crossing state lines, you might want to make sure you have all your I’s dotted and t’s crossed. Don’t want them classifying you as a non licensed dealer and dropping the hammer on you.

But the 2A is a restriction on state action. To say that the 2A grants one the right to purchase a gun from a private entity would be the same as saying we have 1A protections on Tigerdroppings. Chicken could ban me right now if he wanted and not run afowl (pun intended) with the 1A.

Age to contract is governed by state law. That doesn’t influence whether a company can choose not to make a contract with someone who is eligible. That then gets into discrimination laws discussed at length in this thread.

Stupid lawsuit. Private enterprises can have a right to refuse service.

Not the same. If you're going to make points on this subject, make good ones.

It is discriminatory.

If I were 19, 20 and told I could not buy a gun I would be one POed soldier. That is where I was at that age.
