The House Homeland Security Committee passed legislation Wednesday that would provide $10 billion toward President Trump's wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, a step toward possible consideration on the House floor. The committee passed Wednesday afternoon in a party-line vote, after dismissing all Democratic amendments.

The committee vote is a significant step toward implementing President Trump's goal of building a border wall, which otherwise has been stalled. Trump himself agreed to delay money for the wall last month in order to quickly resolve a fight over raising the debt ceiling and extending federal spending for the first few months of the new fiscal year.

It's still not clear when or whether House Republicans will bring the bill to the floor. However, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said last week that Trump was receptive to the idea of including some form of border security in a bill creating a program to protect immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children.

Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, introduced the bill in July, and it has more than 70 Republican co-sponsors, but no Democratic support.

McCaul's committee on Wednesday rejected every Democratic amendment before voting to approve the bill.

"We have been talking about border security for so many years and now we finally have a chance to get this done. We finally have a partner in the White House who has prioritized this issue. It's time for Congress to do its part and get this done," McCaul said during the committee markup.

that picture is a good depiction of a rabbit run fenceline....outside fence has no security on it...just barb wire...inside the "rabbit run" are microwave sensors or something similar that detects motion...they are crawl resistant...the inside fence would have security components on it...taut wire or FOID...the vehicle gates can be done with PULNIX sensors where taut wire cannot be used...then cameras to catch certain zones that can record when motion is detected by the security system...miles and miles of this would be easy/cheap to build cause its just chain link....but the $$$ is in the tech materials and the installation and maintenance it would take...I would move closer to the border for that kind of job...contractors would make millions in maintenance costs for years...would be good for the economy in those areas for sure though....huge lighting and power budget to go along with all that....Mexico will pay for it too...once he renegotiates NAFTA, the money that they would lose from their economy with jobs coming back to us...will be pumped back into our economy...and this project......essentially at a cost to them by impacting negatively their GDP...MAGA mfers

The reason Democrats are so against this is because they fear it will actually reduce illegal immigration by a lot.

Without immigration the Democratic party in this country is effectively dead.

With immigration the Republican party will eventually be dead.

The dems in the Senate have already clearly said they’ll choose a shutdown before they vote for any measure providing substantial funding for the construction of a wall. It’s why Trump was peddling his “improvements to existing structures” just a few weeks ago.

Whether it gets built or not, why are you against it?

Even at it's worst, the cost of the wall is a drop in the bucket compared to thousands of shitty programs we waste money on everyday that I don't see you protesting.

It's basically you don't want Trump to get a win.

Why would it need 60 votes?

Because it’s a stupid idea. Free nations don’t live behind walls and we don’t need a fortified border to defend us against a friendly neighbor with whom we do almost $600B a year in trade (our second largest relationship). There are smarter, better ways to manage the necessary and mutually beneficial economic migration of labor to the United States.

Ummm. Because the democrats will filibuster any measure allocating funding for the construction of a wall.
