No vote can take place in the senate until all discussion has taken place or they have at lest 60 votes for closure to end the discussion.

If they dems filibuster and keep discussion open, no vote will even take place.

He is going to have to tie it to something the dems want, DACA concessions or something. Which is why R's were upset that Trump negotiated with Schumer and Pelosi and hinted that he would not tie DACA to any other overriding bill.

And what would you propose?
Enforcement on our end (the demand side) and the implementation and management a comprehensive registration and non-citizen migrant worker program.

And that’s assuming I see this issue as some pressing problem to solve. It really isn’t.

Did you just say illegal immigration and border security is not a pressing problem that needs to be solved?

Good luck getting that to 60 votes in the Senate.

Vote to get rid of 60 votes needed to end a filibuster and make it a simple majority. Your move, cuck

I guess you didn't pay attention during the election cycle. It's a huge issue, hence immigration being at the forefront of daddy's campaign. No more freebies for illegals. It's finally time to enforce immigration laws, including a wall.

In todays political landscape it needs to happen. There is virtually no bi-partisanship on any issue right now. If you want anything to get done they need to go to simple majority (which is all that is needed to pass a bill) If people get the sense that something is going to pass with or without them. They are more likely to reach out and contribute and have it pass with them and some influence.

Its not unheard of either. Prior to 1975 you needed 2/3rds of the senate (67 senators), it was reduced to 3/5ths in 1975. And it will go to simple majority within the next 10 years IMO. (if the republican's don't do it now, you can be sure the dems are going to do it if they regain congress)

In the grand scheme of things, absolutely not. You draw up a list of challenges facing the United States and I’ll go ahead and show you where I rank it. I believe that more can and should be done to secure our borders from actual threats, but even then I’m having a hard time thinking of a significant national security/terrorism incident that can be traced back south of the border. The situation is downright peachy compared to the cocaine wars which ravaged S Florida and the East Coast in the 1980s. This really isn’t a National Security issue.

I'm a fan of ending all social welfare programs and opening the borders up.

Of course the first part is just a pipe dream so I guess it's not a serious position to take.

I wasn’t here last fall. But I certainly predicted a Trump loss when I was last here in Spring. Oh well. Bizarre election ended bizarrely. I also predicted what a gallery of dysfunction his administration would be, hold poorly he’d adapt to the office, and how little the Republicans he spent two years pissing on would do to stick their necks out for him.

But you can hang onto the election. God knows that’s about the last thing he accomplished.

LOL What?

I would put border security and illegal immigration at the top of the list. Sure you can list some more immediate threats: Islamic terrorism, North Korea, Iran and longer term threats like Russia and China all external but this is an insidious problem that is a cancer on this Republic and it absolutely needs to be addressed. The drug problem is endemic as it ever was in the 1980's.

That measure doesn’t have enough votes to pass, spanky. I can dig for quotes but I believe McCain, Alexander, Murkowski, Collins, a couple of others went on record against it during the Healthcare debate.

And the Dems are being bitten in the arse by some of their maneuvering when they last held the Senate right now. Don’t think anyone with any foresight wants to keep yanking the yo-yo. It always come back around.

What, exactly, is the incidious problem?

I wasn’t talking about drug abuse and ODs, etc. I was talking drug-related crime and violence. It’s risen over the last few years, but it still isn’t as it was from the 1970s -early 1990s.
