You'd have to ask the people who say that.

I made it clear that I was only reporting viewpoints, not endorsing them.

I understand. I was responding to the point.

That sounds like the weird MAGA talking point that's developed the past 2 weeks that implies Iran somehow wasn't Muslim until 1979, ignoring 1300 straight years of history

It's been said in many ways including "Iran was Persian, not Muslim"

I don't think it's been the majority religion since about 650AD

You did say something about prior to Islam.

Every Arab I worked with in thirty plus years ultimately will tell you those guys are Persians they are not Arabs. They go as far as to say they are untrustworthy, which I find a tasty comment.

There are methodology issues and the output has yet to be repeated, while plenty of other work in the area give vastly different outputs.

Where was "Arab" referenced in my post?

So in theory, 50k Mosques closing means what?

Imagine in 10 years being able to visit Iran and go to Mass or church while you're there

Imagine how many Shia extremists will blow themselves up in churches every year in Iran if that happens.

For these idiots, shooting up a church is like an express elevator to heaven. A few extra virgins at the end of the day. Like heaven but with more bells and whistles.

I would not be shocked to find out Iran has become more secular the past decade.

However, I would be careful saying things like this

especially if we leave the regime in place

That was very tongue in cheek.

I did not respond to it as if it was 100% serious. That's why I used the "I'd be careful...." language.

If I thought you were serious, like ole Vox is here, I'd have responded similarly to this:

quote:

I'm not shocked you would get this so wrong based off a clip on X.

Legend.

Yes, humans ALWAYS base their behavior on logic. OP says it’s being reported by other sources, as well. Do you have any contradictory evidence?

yes there are other sources claiming that 50k mosques have closed but none about a rise in christianity. you don't need to be a rocket science to realize the islamic regime would not allow such a thing to happen. Also logically, if people are turning away from a religion, its usually to get away from religion period ...not turn to another version of it. its fake

I provided the search link, literally the second result.

This is the sort of X post that I’m talking about when I say that it’s nearly impossible to discern the truth from social media posts.

I've seen pictures on X of new train and subway stations in Tehran with relief murals of Jesus and Mary. Hard to believe this is true given the narrative from the U.S. and Israel governments of how harsh the Iranians are to Christians.

An Iranian guy in my office was telling me that you can BE Christian in Iran, but can't convert to Christianity while living in Iran.

I've broken bread with Persians several times long before tensions were high. We never talked politics or religion. Very pleasant people.
