The institution is the problem. It's systemic. The police will never fail to obey unconstitutional orders. They are not your friends, by definition, as an institution.

I don't usually watch videos. I read the articles. The linked previous article stated it was unclear if he had stolen the car

Comply with reasonable orders.
Imagine if you were in a parking lot at night, eating a burger when someone throws the door open, puts a gun at you, and shouts at you to get out. In that instant, would you “just comply?”
If they're wearing a police uniform, yes. Was this an officer in uniform or a plainclothes detective?

Too many non police shootings to even count…so you post the one or two you can count. Got it.

or alternately, don't check, and instead go blow away a shocked 17y/o for driving a red car.

Yep. Just how cops assume every person is a criminal until they prove otherwise, I assume every cop is looking to jack someone up until they prove otherwise.

Again, it's not whether the cop knew. The article is deliberately confusing. The kid looked right at the cop and then fled. I would bet the kid is a crook. And for the record, the video in no way states whether the vehicle is stolen. I watched it several times. The news is lying about this to stir up animosity.

People impersonate police officers during robberies, especially car jackings.
The officer never identified himself. The kid was right to be dubious.

Again, this was at night and out of the blue. Most likely, it didn’t even register that the figure throwing his door open, shouting at him, and pointing a gun at him was even a police officer at all.
Instinct overrides thought processes in moments like this. I bet most people would react the same way this teenager did.
This is why police should make every effort to de-escalate and have more tools in their disposal than lethal weapons. Lethal force should only be used when life or limb of self or others are at risk. That was not the case here.

The cop gave no notice to identify himself and opened the door from behind the kid.
That's scary already.
Then he tries to manhandle the kid without identifying himself (IDGAF if he's in uniform) and fight or flight steps in.
That's scary too.
The officer WAS IN ABSOLUTELY ZERO DANGER FROM THE KID OR THE VEHICLE. UNLESS THE HALF EATEN BURGER WAS A WEAPON!
Fact.
The officer fired multiple shots, and also fired in the direction of civilians that could have been in the restaurant in his line of fire.
RECKLESS AND UNNECESSARY.
frick that cop - die!

Or the kid was a crook who ran from the cops already and got busted and took off again. You tell me because the media isn't going to tell us.

You seem a little upset. Try some deep breathing exercises to regain your center. Was the car stolen?

I don’t know anything about the kids history. You know how this is avoided and straightened out, though? Park the cruiser behind the vehicle and turn the lights on. Run the plates to see if the vehicle is reported stolen or has open warrants. Slowly approach the vehicle and identify as police. If nervous, call for backup.
And don’t fire ten rounds in the direction civilians while someone is fleeing.
All round horrible police work and unjustifiable. Yet here you are, trying to justify it.

A lot of assumptions. Anyone here ever - EEEEVVVEEERR seen a cop not pull someone over and not sit there and run the plates? That's standard op procedure you retard.
I see you're basic civil rights dumb and an apologist for unlawful acts.
I'm breathing son, and without support, unlike the poor kid that your blue buddy gunned down for no fricking reason at all but target practice.
frick you too.

Yep. Cop screwed up. Deserves to be fired. If the kid's a thief I don't really care what happened to him while fleeing. Was the car stolen?

Like grand theft auto? Wasn't your car, though. NBD. Did you finish your breathing exercises? Was the car stolen?

The police are not your friends. There's no such "thing" as the Thin Blue Line.
Out of the 3 million police interactions a year, people like you take the dozen or so that go bad that we hear about and call all cops out?
Yeah, cops are human. People at your workplace are human. Cops frick up. People at your workplace frick up. Being a police officer is a job. You expect all cops to be Jesus or something? Do no wrong??? Why, they're people too.
I'll fill you in.. 98% of people kinda suck in one way or another. Cops are no different, priests are no different, doctors are no different.
And one last thing...
When a cop walks up to my car and starts questioning me, my first reaction isn't to frantically drive off.
Not saying the cop isn't in the wrong here, but that interaction and drive off is suspicious in itself for the driver.
Didn't the cop believe that was a car from a chase the night before or was that completely fabricated? I'm asking because I don't know.
Because I think we can all agree that if any cop gets to be face to face with a runner from the night before, the cop is going to be quite aggressive. I can imagine how hard it would be to maintain professionalism in some of these situations.
Hell, reading this board puts me in a bad mood, and I'm just reading shite and watching a few posted videos at my desk. Can't imagine myself on scene in the middle of all this bullshite. I'd grow to completely despise people.. even more than I do now..
