Bad days tend to have Joe being foggy and agitated, but he had one episode where he thought he was running against Gary Hart; they kept him under wraps for a few days after that.
Joe is now on Namenda, which makes him more lucid but has the side effect of him being incontinent. The campaign has a group trying to decide on which adult diapers to use; the factors are least visible, most unlikely to leak, and won't crinkle audibly.
