Is it a double standard the cops won't release the name of one of their own?

I know they're saying it's because of potential death threats.
But they NEVER have any issue releasing a regular person's name.
How can they get away with this?
Thoughts?

That's an excellent point. If a civilian had shot Brownie they would have released the name and not cared if it made that person a target for retaliation.

you read that reason article, too?

But where's the gay marriage angle in this story?

It is absolutely a double standard similar to how cops don't get placed in general population if they go to prison. I do think that if the cop is charged with a crime that his name will be released.

I'm no big supporter of cops these days but the officer has not been charged with a crime at this point so technically they probably have some wiggle room to not release his name.

That's not true. I've seen many times a shop owner or a civilians name is withheld until the investigation is complete.

The Anonymous crew on this shift is fricking terrible. They haven't done anything right.

You can blame dumbshits like Spike Lee and Rosie O'donnell who are busy tweeting out the "offenders" addresses.

What if the officer is gay, Toddy? Would you still want his name released?

They released a pic of the dead teen with the alleged killer cop standing over him.

wasn't that just basically retweeting an alleged pic of that scenario?

Maybe the person that releases the name is out fighting the rioters.

Civilians' names are not always released, and cops' names are not always withheld. So I would say no, not necessarily a double standard. But I see your point.
I wonder if the events following the incident hadn't have happened or were less extreme, they might have released his name.

Doubt it.

It probably also has to do with the fact that the officer is in an ongoing investigation, until everything is settled we won't know much about the cop.
note: double standard or not it makes sense that they are keeping his name under raps and I agree with it. He be dead within hours if his name was made public.

The ACLU is requesting a copy of the Incident Report, which will have the cop's name on it, and the police department is required by law to release it.
