Which is probably a good thing.

quote:

"You look at our team, and don't take my word for it, but I think Tyreke is going to come off the bench and I think I'm going to come off the bench," he said. "Depending on how Eric feels, I could be starting at the two. I could be starting at the two, or coming off the bench with Ryan Anderson and Tyreke. That's not a bad second group.

"I'm not really worried about my minutes. Me and Jrue were talking about this at dinner. Our second group is just as good as our first group."

Morrow or Tyreke would start if Gordon can't play, but way to keep your chin up kid

He is saying all the right things. Now he just has to prove it.

I don't necessarily agree with this. Monty loves Austin and might very well start him if EG10 wasn't ready to go.

He might start over Morrow because he is better than him. He's not better than Tyreke, but Monty might want to keep continuity with Tyreke's role on the team.

A la danny green on the spurs

Rivers needs to slow his roll a little bit. He's not completely developed

I really like Rivers. His work ethic and passion this offseason and into summer league won me over. The only real disappointment is that his left hand didn't seem much improved despite the opportunity for him to develop it with his injured right wing. Wing... Pelican.... see what I did there?

He seems like he thought he should be ranked in the top 100 when he didn't play well. I'm not sure he realizes how bad he was last season, and he just expects playing time. That's kind of worrying

I think that depends on how well he hits his 3s. With Aminu, Stiemsa and Davis starting, the guy next to Holiday has to be able to create space.

Monty said he's very intrigued with Tyreke + Anderson + Smith. 2 stretch 4s to draw big bodies out of the paint plus Tyreke's ability to post up guards will hopefully be a pretty lethal combination.

Yeah I'm sure you know more about the rotation than a guy on the team.

I've been one of Rivers bigger defenders on this board. That being said Monty has actually been pretty open about what he wants in his rotation. At the end of the season last year he complained about Vasquez and Aminu not creating the space he needed to let Gordon run the offense more. This year he's talked about wanting to pair Tyreke with Anderson and Smith to give Tyreke space to attack the basket. Monty wants to pair creators with floor spacers, it's NBA 101 these days. It looks like Aminu and Stiemsma are starting, so where Rivers is on the depth chart depends entirely on how much space he can create. Would he be a better match with the starting unit that Tyreke? Perhaps. Is he going to be better than Morrow? That doesn't seem very likely because between Holiday and Aminu you can hide Morrow on defense and he's one of the top 3 point shooters in the league.

I've already said many times that the best case scenario for the Pelicans is Rivers making Gordon expendable, so I'd love for him to start and excel at SG, but I just don't see it happening, at least not at the beginning of the season.
