Question about the Pro Bowl

I know recently there has been less and less interest in the Pro Bowl, both from fans and especially the players. You may have a case now where a 6th or 7th selection is a "pro bowler" just because guys ahead of him didn't want to go.
My question is, why can't the NFL do something similar to how college football has an All American list and basically just "name" the pro bowlers, but not actually have a game? Guys would still get recognized and could hang their hat on that "he was an x time pro bowler", but they wouldn't have to deal with the riffraff of going out there to play in a meaningless game.

Pro-Bowl still garners ratings that is why they will still have it.....
12.5 rating last year, higher than NBA Finals and MLB playoffs

wow, I had no idea.
Why are more players losing interest in it, the injury/meaningless game factor? Or are they just ready for the season to be over with?

Season to be over and if they make it they still get their bonus regardless if they play or not. So why would you wanna play in a meaningless game when you already got paid?
Granted those who do play earn 20k if they lose and 40 if they win.
But if you have it written in contract that you get a bonus for making it that 20-40k may look like chump change

I'd love to see the players break out the flags during the game, just to spite this a-hole.

I see. With that being the case it seems like just naming a list of "pro bowlers" would be better, but like you said I guess TV ratings will prevent that from ever happening.

Yeah all that nonsense about them wanting to cancel, as long as ratings are high they will keep it. They not in business to get away from something that makes them money.
If they up the payouts they would get the first selections and make game more competitive. However, the rules of probowl suck, it is a flag football game with base defense no blitzes etc

They name an All-Pro team
