***Official "Things we should have done instead of pay Drew Brees" Thread

Since we have so many geniuses that think we shouldn't have paid Drew Brees, answer the question:
What should we have done instead?
We have the best player in franchise history as a FA. He has set his market value.
Now, tell me what you would have done instead.
BE SPECIFIC.

Brees is the only reason the games have Ben competitive this season. So this thread is pretty moot

There really is only one option if you decide a top QB is too rich for your blood, and that's go the way the 49ers have gone. Even assuming Chase Daniel is an adequate game manager QB, how do you build a dominant defense out of this unit with $20 million more in cap space? Mario Williams? He certainly turned the Bills defense around

But you can plug just any little QB in and get the same results we have been getting if we get a marginally improved D, right?

I think it's a beautiful thing. Make Brees happy (he deserved it for what he has done for this franchise), front loaded, not like paying any one particular player would have made a difference this season.
If the Saints do somehow turn it around this season all the better too!

I don't think we shouldn't have paid Drew. I just don't believe ANY player is worth $100 million. I also believe that if Drew was such a team player as he claims to be then he would have took less to keep Carl Nicks or go sign a Mario Williams. Drew Brees, Manning, Brady, etc will make more money in endorsments than they ever will on the field. They deserve to be paid but if they really are about championships and legacies then take a little less and build a team!

Yeah, because Grubbs is the problem.
And we don't need to sign defensive help. We are going to trade Ingram for a great defensive player.
