Best restaurants, dives and bars. Where should we stay away from too?

Poogans Porch is a great! I've eaten there several times.

Gotta go to The Gin Joint then. Check out the menus on the places I listed. You'll get the best of Charleston from all of those. A lot of them have great bars too (Husk for example is one of my favorite places for an old fashioned).

Lsubase13 basically covered everything. IMO Charleston is one of the best cities in the country.

I disagree somewhat with this. I used to work at FLETC on the old Navy Base in N. Charleston. While agree the area is generally a shithole - I loved going to Madra Rua in historic downtown N. Charleston. It is one of the best bars in the area and worth seeking out after visiting the nearby C.S.S. Hunley. Your list is very good otherwise.

Hmm..I've only been here a few years, but I haven't checked out that place yet. I live on Market (close to King) and while it is a little trek, I'll still check it out. I looked it up and it does look pretty cool. Thanks for the heads up.

Madra Rua, Sesame, and EVO (pizza) are worth the trek to Park Circle. Well the Rua and EVO are. Sesame has expanded.

What has been listed is a good list. Avoid Market St bars and restaurants and you can't go wrong. If you feel like getting off the peninsula head to Avondale in West Ashley and bounce around the bars there. VooDoo is a great spot.

Poe's on Sullivan's is a great spot and highly recommended. Great place to grab a burger and a beer and watch the day go by.

For lunch or late night on the weekend head to Butcher and Bee on Upper King. Maybe stumble in from the Rec Room.
