Possible origin of anti-rematch sentiment, response to "They skeerd"

The "stop whining" and "what are you afraid of" sentiment from Bama fans has been bugging me since Championship Weekend. I do believe they're the second best team in the country, and under the system we have they deserve (yes, deserve) to be in the BCSCG. I know all Tiger fans aren't anti-rematch, but I'd wager the majority are, and I have a pretty good idea why.
The reality for fans under 60 - those of us who didn't get to witness our first championship - involve the Tigers losing at least one game in a season. It's what we've lived every year of our fandom. As special as this year has been, a loss now wrecks it. That in itself is high anxiety, but the fact that a team with which our program has significant baggage is the BCSCG opponent - even after beating them on the road in a game we were expected to lose - is at best a very disrespectful irony.
Bama's success is what we strove for during the Mac years, and despite fielding some really strong teams we fell short. Fast forward to today and our old nemesis is the team waiting in the wings to possibly ruin a dream season. They and their umpteen national championships have fallen arse-backwards into the big game, and it rubs a vast majority of Tiger fans the wrong way.
That said, I'm really looking forward to round two. If I've bored you and earned a "TLDR" I respectively submit you can apply negative pressure to my nads.
Geaux Tigers!

Nice post. Hate to say it but the anti-rematch, scared, and what are you afraid of sentiment come directly from our fanbase. No one would say a thing if some of our fans would let go of the "fair/unfair" bullshite and man up for the biggest game in LSU's history. Every time a ranter whines and mentions the thought of a split national championship it only adds fuel to the fire and credibility to Bama's stance that we are scared to play them. Bottom line is the two best teams in the country are playing Jan 9 and the winner will be the national champion period. The tigers have nothing to worry about, we beat them in a non-offensive slugfest in Tuscaloosa, the dome will be a fast paced home game that we will win again and be undisputed national champs. go tigers

Why let something like that bug you? They have their opinion, and we have ours. In the end it's decided on the field. I've been enjoying the season to care about what fans of either side say, and I'm certainly not focussing on the ESPN experts. If we lose, oh well. It won't stop me from waking up the next day around 3 hungover from the night before. Once that passes life goes on.

It bugs me because Bama fans - to a man (or woman) - truly believe we're scared to play them, when in fact most rational Tiger fans see this team as an improved variant of the one that TCB in BDS on 5 November.

They are the ones that need to be scared. We beat them once, and this time, we'll beat them better.

Great post! You put into words the very thing I am feeling. The good news is that I don't think the football team is scared one bit. They have been through too much this season to let the enormity of this game to bother them. We have seen a lot of "firsts" this year, so the next "first" for LSU will be a first 14-0 championship season. We'll be ringing in the new year and a new era in LSU football. Ain't it great?

Quite frankly I don't give a fu ck what or if Bama fans think.
They are of absolutely no consequence to me in any way.
In they grand scheme of things they are totally immaterial.
And deep down inside they realize that.

They realize that they are unimportant to the rest of civilization which is why they hang on to all of their bogus "championships". The inflated number gives them some sense of worth in a world that assigns them no value.

I for one was and still are a anti-rematch fan. Mine has nothing to do with being afraid of Bama but hate the fact that Bama gets to share the glory of being in the NC game. I hate the fact that for a month all the talk will be about LSU and Bama. The mere fact that they get to gloat and act big headed and talk about a "14th" NC is what irks the hell out of me.

Don't let it worry ya. "They skeered" is all that they have.
LSU has scoreboard.
LSU has the SEC West championship
LSU has the SEC championship
After Jan. 9th, LSU will have the national championship.
At that point, "they skeered" will change to "they F'ed up our season."

Bama's ignorant fanbase can say what they want.
I don't want a rematch for one simple reason. In the upcoming decades when the debate comes up for the greatest teams of the century, I wanted LSU to be on the top of that list b/c we beat 3 major confrence champs in one season. (Oregon, WVU and Okie St.)
I wish we would've kept Southern Miss on the schedule as well.
But now, we will have only beaten 2 conference champs and beaten a team twice in 1 year who will not be considered as good as advertised once we beat them. The great accomplishments of this team will now be downplayed as "lucky" and this college football season as a whole will be called a "weak" year.
BUT..
If Bama were to play someone else in the Sugar and we were to play Okie St, I'd wager both LSU and Bama would crush the opposition. Leaving a hole in history for the "what if".
LSU got screwed. Not b/c they have to play their toughest game of the season again, but b/c this team's righful place in CF History will now be diminished from elite into just another good team.

I live with the gumps. They are pissed, but they are the ones that are scared and because they don't like being scared they try to put it on us.
My feeling is I don't care what they think. I don't care if they are pissed or if they are scared or if their feelings are hurt because the best team ever got beat on their home turf.
We are going to beat their arse on Jan 9 because we are the better team.
