Hard to pin down "the best". The opening scene from Inglorious Basterds is one of my favorites. D-Day scene from Saving Private Ryan is up there as well (if that can be considered one scene).

I very much enjoy the hopper/walken scene in True Romance.

The Jules/Vince scene in the apartment with Brett/brad , flock of seagulls etc in pulp fiction

Pacino's peace with inches speech in Any Given Sunday

I came in here to post about this. Anytime I think of the perfect movie scene, I think of Hans Landa in the beginning of Basterds. Awesome movie.

Tough call, but off the top of my head:

Fallen Angels The editing and music is brilliant

The Mirror

Le Revelateur (favorite part starts at 1:10)

Notice how none of these scenes have any dialogue

As far as entertaining goes I would say the training scene between Morpheus and Neo in the matrix.

An experimental film

I just love the lighting and the flow of the camera during this scene. For some reason it sticks out for me.

Probably. The director, Philippe Garrel, was a frick buddy and drug buddy of folk artist Nico. So yea he was probably on acid or whatever drugs they had back then.

You did mention scenes without dialogue. 2 more recent more mainstream films that did this well were the opening sequences in Up and There Will Be Blood.
