How were the WMAs this year in Louisiana? never hunted one but just left a club and seeing if its worth not getting in club/lease for 2012-2013 hunting season. Got a baby on the way in September so wont be hunting too much this year.

WIll they get me my fix for 2012-2013 season or is it not worth a shite?

With a baby on the way I doubt you'll have the time to do the scouting, they're not good enough to just show up and kill birds consistently.

How far are you willing to drive? Around BR the closest WMA is Sherburne but you'll need to do some scouting as it sees a lot of pressure. Big deer are there and ducks too but you have to put in some time. If you're willing to drive a couple of hours, your options expand significantly.

Depends which ones you would want to hunt. They have some good ones. The hardest thing about hunting WMA's is getting away from the humans.

You didn't say what you are hunting. If it is deer and you bow hunt then you have a good chance on the WMAs around the area. Rifle hunting is limited to just a couple of weeks...

Around here, if you're not getting to your spot in waders, you'll see 10 humans for every one deer.

Go to Red River the day after thanksgiving, it will change your mind about not getting into a lease.

Are you a good deer hunter? Do you understand how to scout, find feed surces, find bedding areas that other hunters will overlook, be willing to get out early and get set up only to have another hunter walk in at dawn and mess up the hunt. You will be hunting deer that are used to loats of pressure and dumb hunters, you will need to outsmart the deer and the other hunters. Those that have this ability kill lots of deer on WMAs. Look at the regulations online now and see what is ok and what is not. Look at the number of rifle days they will be similar next year and go out and start scouting now...

WMAs are what you make of them. Our camp in located in the center of one and have hunted them forever. There are a few weekends a year when you see a lot of people. Other than that, its no more people that a hunting lease. You have to be able to find locations that other people may not want to put forth that extra effort to go to. I deer hunt over a half-mile from where i park my four-wheeler and saw only one person all year long.
