Will be in a “beach” house with the family. Bringing a few crab traps. Haven’t tried this in the surf before. Any tips will be helpful.

And I know that the ladies of Artie’s are always available if I need to catch crabs.

Go to Artie’s around midnight. Guaranteed you will wake up with some crabs in the morning.

Yes, the Artie’s/crab jokes are always hilarious and original. I’m sure you’ll get some on here. Get the cheapest chicken type bait you can find and put the traps off the beach in the evening. Check them the next morning. Crabs seem to bite better at night and early in the morning. Make sure you have the side you put the bait in, on the bottom.

Bring them out to waist deep and spike them down with 5 ft of rebar. For bait go to bridge side cleaning station and ask people cleaning fish to fill up ur bucket with scraps for bait.

But the wind and weather is supposed to be bad so there might not be anyone cleaning fish

Was there crabbing yesterday. Winds and surf were bad, will be worse this weekend. Frankly, you'll really be wasting time with crabbing in the surf but if you get the traps in 10+ feet of water overnight you should do well.
