Buddy of mine is going to Giles Island and i just went to their website and looked at the rates.

Man,why would you spend new UTV money on a 3 fricking day hunting trip?

Not everyone has a place where they can see or kill deer even close to that size. It would be cool to do once.

That is a good chunk of change, but hardly a new UTV. A lot of guys spend that on leases every year and don't kill anything. I guess some people would like to spend that money and be guaranteed a trophy. Little rich for my blood though.

Quality land is expensive (hell any land is expensive), nice camps are expensive, management is a 12 month job and expensive, guides need to be paid, etc

I used to be part of a deer hunting lease. That lease cost me about $1,800 a year. That's cheap in this part of the country. A quality club in Central Florida will run you $4,500 or more per year. I'd pack up my things and go to lease just about every weekend between September and mid-January. Between fuel, food, licenses, incidentals and everything else I easily spent $3-4,000 every deer season. Not to mention the headaches, politics and belly aching associated with every trophy managed deer club. And just about every season I'd kill a few does and perhaps a marginal buck.

Then I had a family and time was at a real premium. I figure I can go hunt for 5 days just about anywhere for $4,000 and have a fricking blast nowadays. For me, its a great fit as I get my fix without sacrificing my family or my marriage.

Why does it cost so much? Because people like me are willing to pay it.

This. And like wick said, managing land isn't cheap.

what?
so you're saying i couldn't buy a brand new UTV for $8000. Which is how much you'd pay for a Holiday hunt with additional guide fees

Would be nice but we have access to 600 acres 3/4 miles from the house. No fees, good friend who doesn't hunt lets the boys use it exclusively. Handful of deer harvested each year and everybody is happy.

Those prices arent horrible. Look at some of the ranches in TX for comparable hunts. You'll be shocked.

that sounds real nice. I'm sure everyone that hunts th eland is real respectful of the property as well.
Is Giles island considered a "High Fence" hunt?

i find cheaper hunts. Went to ohio during gun season for $800 and it was 1200acres 4 day hunt. Been to kentucky for $850 1000acres 4 day hunt. And another kenyucky place was $1000 for 800 acres 4 day hunt.

Cheaper hunts are out there that are not "guaranteed" But you will have a blast. On our ohio hunt we killer 6 deer with 2 being nice 8 points. And we aleays see a ton of deer in kentucky and killed a couple nice ones

A land owner looks at the property and figures out how to maximize profits for each piece. Some or all of the property might be used for farming, might be used for timber, might be placed into CRP, might be leased for hunting etc.

Pretty much...

I think even the small rangers are around 9k. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's about the starting price of any UTV. I'm sure someone here will know for sure.

ETA: And I don't consider Giles Island a high fence hunt. Those deer are free to come and go as they please. It's just a well managed property with the benefit of being on the MS River and not much pressure.

I can't see what you referenced, blocked from Cabelas at work.

But $7,300 > $6,500.

You can't add tax to one and not the other. Even for that glorified golf cart you linked.

it's a 4x4 UTV. You motherfrickers didn't request me to price a Can Am or a Polaris.

You are also quoting Holiday Rates, you sandbagging son of a bitch!

Maybe if that UTV had case hardened wheels, KR might like it better.
