I'm not at all. Just like I said. People here talk about gators like it's nothing. To people here they are unknown and would be scared shitless. Roger is the bear wrangler around here btw so frick you very much

I can guarantee you that more bears see you than you see of them. They are very stealthy for such a large animal.

I'm sure.....have no doubt.

He isn't. Stop being a jackass.

quote:

Bears are wild animals, they dont care who you are or where you're from...they are curious animals and if they get close enough to you they can frick you up without really trying to......and if for one second they feel threatened, vegetarian or not they will kill you

Bears have predictable habits. Only in rare cases do they deviate. With a natural food source, bears will usually stay clear of people. This is why most people don't see them in the wild.

When bears are feeding on fish from a stream, they are usually oblivious to people.

Thanks for the backup. Of everyone I know who has seen one here or that I have read about have all said the same thing, for the most part. They saw the hind end as they were going the opposite direction.

Some people seem to think we have a very mellow bunch of bears here.

People up in Point Coupee are worried that if the open the Morganza they will have black bears all over. Apparently they are plentiful up that way.

when I was an undergrad, I knew a guy who worked for WLF and they were putting black bears in the Morganza with radio collars. He told me they found one of the males killed. Like murdered….

yeah, the only bears to worry about normally are those too accustomed to humans, those that are ill or starving, have cubs close by or associate humans with food. They normally don't view humans as a threat to their food source.

They run away most of the time or hide very well. Urban bears are a bit different though. They are fascinating creatures but I sure am not going to be Timothy Treadwell or anyone similar.

You guys have cougars which I understand are similar. We don't have them here.

They are similar although from what I've read and been told they are very curious of people and will watch (secretly) but typically don't view us as a threat or food unless their starving. Bears want nothing to do with us. Heard there's a growing problem with cougars in NE Oregon. Second biggest concentration of them are there.

Oh the memories. I slayed one of the finest two legged deer out there back in 94-95ish. I was a Ouachita fellow and it was frowned upon for folks like me to be on that side of the river doing the things I was doing. End of hijack

Had a friend who was stalked for over two hours by a cougar while bow hunting in Montana, near Kalispell. Said it was the freakiest thing he has ever experienced.

You told me before. Scary stuff, I want no part of them. Anything that is my size that can snap the neck of a 1000 lb bull elk with one leap is an animal to seriously fear. My buddy has seen one from about 30 yards. Buddy told me he looked all cocky.....like what are you gonna do, I could make you my bitch if I wanted too.
Cougar left after a few minutes. He's the only person I know who has seen one.

This guy!

Caught him swimming across the intercoastal in Morgan City. Drove up to him in the boat and watched him swim up to the bank and run off.

This is probably related to the amount of shrooms consumed by hippies who lived in communes in Oregon in the 60's and '70's.
