Any of you folks ever participated in the White Lake Lottery Teal Hunt? I decided to put my name in for the lottery this year, and I was pulled to go. I'm looking forward to it, but I don't know what to expect. Was seeing if anyone here has any input for me?

Thanks,
OGhunter.

Some things are not talked about on here..... at least not until after all the lottery drawings are finished

Was very shitty there last year. Opening morning produce 3 birds. Then a big duck hunt only gave up 6 birds between 3 hunters. Problem about big ducks, they pick you up before 9 am. Ducks started coming in at that time.

Don't ya know that AMACO was turning back flips when Foster accepted their offer to dismiss the law suit in lieu of taking possession of White Lake? What kind of money do you think the state spends to maintain that place annually? I know Fornerat leased an ungodly amount of it to hunt and run cattle but that is over with from what i'm told.

Idk - I’ve never been there nor do I know much about it. I saw an opportunity for a lottery teal hunt, put my name in the drawing and the my sent me a letter saying I’d been selected. That’s as far as my knowledge of that place goes.

Also got selected this year for a teal hunt, will be my first time in that marsh. Largely going for the unique experience and to see the property/facilities, but the teal hunting is usually decent. I would think it's best on weekends when there's more pressure in the rice to the north of there, but I mostly put in for weekdays and drew a Tuesday.

I have hunted the marsh teal lottery numerous times. Typically it is a pretty good hunt. Last time I hunted the teal lottery, South LA had gotten a lot of rain right around teal season and the water in the marsh was very high, most of the birds were using areas where there weren’t blinds. I think we were high blind with 9 birds, but the other years I’ve hunted it most people are able to limit out.

It’s a beautiful place and cool experience.

I’ve also hunted the rice field lottery with very mixed results. Had a few hunts where we limited out on specks, a hunt or two where we had most of a 3 man duck limit with mostly mallards, and one hunt where we didn’t fire a shot all morning. They end the hunt waaaayyy to early for a rice field in that part of the world, especially if you want to shoot specks. But it’s still probably better than the average rice field pit in that part of the world.

That place has a lot of potential, but the energy they put into the rice field big duck hunts is about what you’d expect from a state agency in LA. Never hunted the marsh during big duck season but I have heard it is still pretty good.

have likewise had some good success in the rice hunts in regular season, mostly teal, grays, and specks. Have heard that the marsh can be about as good as it gets during the regular season, guess like anywhere else it can vary by season and weather conditions.

Excited to go see the marsh in September

Yes I got selected for a Wednesday. Would have preferred a weekend, but I’ll take what I can get. I’m taking my dad - hopefully the experience is enjoyfull -

FYI, any of the senior lottery duck hunts have a high probability of getting picked because so few enter. Senior can take one guest, typically a young buck to get around and shoot.

according to the LDWF website, it 100% funds itself. Hell the corporate weekend hunts are $30K

30 G for one weekend. Who would do that? Do they have a honeybreak style ballers lodge there or something?
