May have missed it, but I haven't seen anyone say that. My dad actually says the same as ya'll do. I've corrected him numerous times.

I did. You can call things anything you want from different regions in the US/world. It's pretty common, if you get out much. Take menhaden for example.

I love how you continuously argue subjective topics and as soon as someone disagrees with their own thought on the matter, you get right to the name calling. We get it dude, we see it in every thread.

The fact that you're pushing 50 years of age makes this way more pathetic.

That would be a legit point if it were based in fact. It's not. You are saying that spinning reels are not open faced. That cannot be supported. Not even a tiny bit.

Show me this. Where is it? The Big Duck thread? What?

Makes what pathetic? How is my age a factor? What you're doing is pathetic regardless of age. I mean, this is the worst behavior I've seen on this board by anyone not banned. Do you think you know me or something?

This is some of the dumbest shite I've ever read in my life.

I wish I could somehow get that time back.

I use both open-face and baitcaster to refer to baitcasting reels. I call spinning reels spinning reels. I'm from southeast Louisiana. It's what I do. I really couldn't give two shits less what anybody else does, and I'm pretty sure most would consider me a serious fisherman. Most of the people I know understand what I mean if I say open-face.

@OP: I use spinning reels for carolina rigging and popping corks. Everything else = baitcaster/open-face.

You can thank Alx for that. Dumbest shite= a 50yr old lawyer getting so flustered over a subjective topic that he resorts to name calling. High comedy is right my man.

Who are you consulting?

Keep digging. At least try to make me work for this. You haven't made a single point yet. Flustered? I'm laugh....at you.

I don't know if you intended it, but you did the board a valuable service.

I thought the "because I'm a man" comment would get most of the bites

not the open faced part

because I literally know no one that calls spinning reels open faced

The "spinning reel is not an open faced reel" group seem to be the ruffled group. Threatening to kick people off boats, saying none of the fishermen you've ever met would call a spinning reel open faced, etc.

We could go on all day about what people I know don't know.

Oh, and what you are probably encountering is a differentiation from a pencil sharpener. Zebco vs. Ambassadeur. Not, that spinning reels aren't open faced-that's been factually established.

ok

I know a spinning reel is technically open faced. That is not the issue.

The issue is whether or not they are commonly referred to as open faced
