When to repower?

I’ve got a 2008 24’ Haynie HO with a 2008 Mercury 225 Pro XS - 500 estimated hours.
Spent a good bit on engine repairs and maintenance. Let’s say around $5k in 2.5 years. When would you opt to repower?

I would repower when you lose faith in the motor. I put a new motor on my boat because the old motors reliability was taking away from the enjoyment of my boat. I don’t know if it will ever make sense financially though 5k in 2.5 years is a lot.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you spend the 5K on. I bought a used 2012 Ranger with a 225 ProXS late last year and have spent just under $2K already on a compressor and oil pumt. Motor has just over 300hrs.

Eric, I’d have to go back through everything but off the top of my head I’ve gone through 2 trim motors And Compressor. Those add up to about $3k of the work.

Used to be a compressor would give you 750-1000 hours and was a common repair, if you all just repaired them may be good for a while.

Add shop time and you're going to be close. Lose the vst pumps $1,500 + shop time = $2,000. I learned the hard way with opti max, you better learn to change parts yourself or have plenty coin to pay for it to be done. My wrench comes to me now with tools and diagnostic but still charges $100/hour but saves me tons over shop time. Some parts can be bought after market or used which saved me thousands.
