the inconsistent watering thing
need calcium for blossom end rot
I have been doing a hydroponic tomato set up experiment and it is nuts how fast you can tell the difference between a diluted solution and the correct one.

Go to lowes and buy Jobes organic vegetable and tomato food. Best results for big juicy tomatoes.

Those are what I call salsa tomatoes. Pull a bell pepper, jalapeno from the garden and add the juice of one lime, chopped green onions, cilantro, garlic, salt and a splash of olive oil.
We keep at least a quart in the fridge all summer.

I am darn glad you asked this because mine just did this last night when I was checking on them. I figured it was a water issue - Houston has been supper dry so I have been watering them but this week we got a ton of rain.

Just spray them with something.
And pick them earlier. Hard sun and afternoon thunderstorms could be the reason.

Spraying will do no good. When tomatoes soak up a bunch of water and then get hit with the hot sun, they're gonna crack.
