What's the process of changing the address on your NFA items?

Is it difficult? Do they send you new paperwork for your NFA item?

No, it was simple. It's been a while, but i think there is a form you can print off their website. You'll get a letter back saying they have made the change. I keep the letter with my stamp and trust info. in the safe.

I talked to the NFA and if you're not changing jurisdictions they don't require a change.

The good news is that if you are moving in-state then there is no legal requirement that you notify the ATF of your new address. However, up until June of 2013, it was requested that NFA owners send a letter to the ATF when moving in-state so that the NFRTR (registry) could be kept up to date.

You can download the 5320.20. You have to send it in duplicate and they only have space for 3 NFA items on each sheet so if you have more than 3, you'll need to download enough to cover it. While not required if moving in state it is still "highly recommended" to send one in. Takes about 2 to 3 months to get a signed copy back.

When I did mine it took about 2 1/2 months. This was about 7 years ago.

INTERstate = required and can take a while.

INTRAstate = not required at all.
