Agreed FWIW

I know people with them without problems. It'll bang. If it gets stolen oh well, cheaper than the other options.

Word. How much are you willing to spend, Boosie?
Posted on 5/4/14 at 5:31 pm to boosiebadazz
go to lafayette shooters for a way better experience

The only place I would keep a sigma would be the truck.

Process starts with:
"Can I see that .45?"
"Here ya go"
"Can you tell me anything about it?"
"It's a .45"

I dunno. I've never bought a gun before.
Is $500 reasonable?

That's a great place to start.
The first question you have to answer is:
"What will this gun be used for?" or "What is the purpose of this pistol?"
It seems to me that your purpose for this pistol is a truck gun. In that case, you are not limited on size. Get a full sized handgun.
You also said you're partial to 45. Know that in terms of ballistics, 9, 40, and 45 all do about the same thing. You just have one small, fast bullet on one end of the scale, and a heavy, slow one on the other end. Then the 40 splits the difference.
Here would be a good place to start if you're unsure of the gun you're looking for:
First Time Firearm Buyers
Also if you can't decide on calibers:
Caliber and Felt Recoil
And if you're torn on whether or not to get a pistol with a safety:
Firearm Safeties - Needed or Unnecessary?
And if you wish to get something both you and the lady can use:
Firearms for Women
If you're set on a 45, I think an M&P45 full sized would be perfect for you:
If you have any other questions, there are plenty of good guys here to assist you.

Appreciate the links and the breakdown. That's why I came here first before walking in to the store.

I agree with everything you said.
That being said, get a 10mm

No sweat. Once you get in there and hold them you'll know which is right for you. But it always helps to know what to expect because it is a lot to take in.
