Not sure about preventing it, but if you feel it coming on...bitters helps. Really works. Bitters also is good for the morning after hangover.

This is why I think it's mostly mental. If I'm not busy doing shite, I'll start thinking about it.

What is bitters, I've never heard of it? I gave up drinking in '06.

Scopolamine patch or nasal spray works better than dramamine for me. It's prescription so you need to get a Dr. to call it in. I don't need it all the time, but I don't get on an offshore boat without it.

I was on a short cruise with my youngest daughter (she was 6 at the time) when we encountered a couple hours of heavy seas. I was on the second deck of a three deck ship and when we were in a trough you couldn't see the crest. The crew duct taped everthing shut and gave us bitters. It really worked. Settles the stomach and dizziness.
I gave up drinking in about the same year but in a pinch, I would take bitters in heavy seas

Angostura bitters was first compounded in Venezuela in 1824 by German physician Dr. Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert; it was compounded as a cure for sea sickness and stomach maladies, though other medicinal uses had been discovered long before this.[1] Dr. Siegert subsequently formed the House of Angostura, a company selling the bitters to sailors.

So do I just let my Dr. know I get seasick the next time I see him to get this?

I just asked mine for the patch and they prescribed it..about $50 for 4

I never got seasick when drinking. Now that I've sobered up, it's a whole different story. I might have to try the ginger thing. There's no way I can try anything with alcohol in it.

Ginger is a pretty good idea. I know some old timers who are out on tidewater every day and they take a tsp of ginger every morning. They say it also helps with the common cold.

If you've seen him recently, just call his nurse and tell her you are going on a boat want some Scopolamine. They should just call it in to your pharmacy.
I'm not sure how the patch and spray are different. Maybe talk to a pharmacist first. I've only used the patch. A friend of mine uses the spray and likes it better.
