I shoot a variety of shells at geesez.

The highest I'll go is 4 shot, but 3's are actually my favorite, just sometimes hard to find.

Either 2 3/4" or 3" #3 or 2 federal cheapo steel.

For those of you shooting 3.5 inch shells at ducks, why? Especially those shooting 3.5 inch #2s. Is it because you only have high pass shooting shots or something?
That's easy to answer: Because I can. I'm hunting a huge flooded field in AR and it isn't a given that the ducks will land in the decoys. I don't like to cripple birds. I also don't like fumbling around trying to find a certain shell. They are all 3.5 BBs. That way when a goose flies over I don't have to switch out shells.

Main reason is because we have just as many specs as ducks on our lease. It's a PITA to work specs and try to be quiet throwing in different shells. 3 1/2" # 2's do the trick for both. Also, I don't have a dog and I'm not a big fan of chasing cripples across a rice field. I shoot 3" shells sometimes, but 3 1/2" #2's are my go to

Because I can and I like to have that little extra just in case I need it.

Nothin wrong with that, I often do the same when in that situation. The funny part is those who show up and are trying to switch shells depending on what's working.....give it up.
When someone else is paying for my shells, I get BlindSide. NOT because I believe in the hex-shot, but because they deliver a larger payload than other 3" shells of comparable speed. (instead of 3" with 1 1/4oz, you can get 1 3/8 oz bc the pellets stack). When I'm paying for them, it's Xpert, Federal Speedshok or Ultrashok, Fasteel, etc, those definitely kill ducks dead without a doubt. Hoping the nice weather and cool fronts continue throughout October.....

I don't have many problems with cripples shooting 3" shells. I don't see a need for the 3.5", to me it's just over-kill. If you're getting a lot of cripples, look at where you're hitting the birds. They don't try to swim away very often when you make head/neck shots.
You may need to adjust your lead just a tad or try a tighter choke.

I've shot 3.5" #2s for several years but I got the pattern master code black goose (extended range w/different stud placement) and have already blown a duck up this year. May be an experimental year with shells. Anybody found good patterning shells using this or similar choke?
Not technically but let's be honest
