Interesting thread guys.

Here's my contribution. A friend caught this one near the Tickfaw State Park last summer on a drop line. I thought y'all would enjoy the pics.

Wow! That's the big trophy there. Lots a meat.

Was he targeting turtles? I ask cause I know a guy who was fishing for poly wogs on 5 hook drop lines and caught a 45 or so pounder. Can't remember exactly how bit but it was huge.

Loggerhead.

One, Snappers don't get that big
Two, see the three rows down it's back? "Common Snappers" have smoother shells.

As I remember the story, he was fishing for spotted cat with live bream on short limb lines.

Exploit that area. Your persistence is paying off.

T5.

Only about 6 lbs but THE most aggressive so far. Like to not get his picture, he kept on & on & and on turning around to face me.

Oh and these two fuggers will never cut in front of a snapper for dinner again.

Also had an amphiuma tridactyl

Perfect snapper! Youre quickly becoming a turtle's worst nightmare.
Well done.
This thread is making it happen!

I cooked all day yesterday. Didn't fish.

Didn't plan on fishing today because I'm tired.
Saw your photos and am about to go set some lines. Thanks for the motivation.

Here's a photo of my shrine/death zone. Gonna let the insects do their thing and make a few Euro mounts.

NSFW?

Glad to return the favor since I was about to hang all this shite up before you told me to fish mo.

Oh and don't tell me you didn't fish last night. I know you were after that ultimate "snappa".

Fin, I drank coffee with Big D and kinda picked his brain some about turtles at yallz place. The lake is not nearly as big as I thought and I'm getting to where I have enough lines that we should catch one just with dumb luck. I'd like to catch a 40+ pounder though.

I deleted your email/addy AGAIN without saving, sorry. I do have your cell though so I'll shoot you a text.

You're right, I did fish.
Of the 12 friends, family and one prospect, no one had eaten turtle previously. Many were skeptical, especially a friend who watched me clean them. After the first taste, all skepticism flew out the window.
I thought the sauce piquant came out all right; it should have been a little thicker. Everyone was thoroughly impressed. Prospect and I talked on the porch, Cajun style until early morning.
I'm pretty sure she is interested, but definitely not hooked. I'll take this one slow and easy because she is worth the catch. Gonna use my turtle fishing approach and apply accordingly.

Ill check my lines in an hour or so and hang it up for the night.

You kick arse man, and I'm psyched you're on the turtles as much as I am.

Lurked this thread from the get go, and it inspired me to set some lines myself.

Saturday I set five lines. Weight on one end, a hook about every foot or foot and a half. For really long lines I would add another weight after four or five feet. I used chicken liver for bait.

Sunday, not a damn thing! Bait was all gone, but I have a feeling the chicken liver didn't stay on the hook very well. It has the consistency of red clay. Any suggestions?

Anything that is harder to take off. Buffalo/carp, for example.

I froze 15 and plan to try them in a bayou possibly this weekend. Someone I know who catches a lot of turtles said it's what he uses.

Oh she's interested. If she hung around THAT long, believe me, she's interested.

Whoa! In this scenario, don't be the fisherman, be the turtle...HARD TO CATCH.

Don't call her for a couple days then send her a lil card (or a spring bouquet) saying you had a great time and yall need to do it again.

We had to inject romance into this dam fine manly man thread eh??

No snappers over the weekend - one red ear and two mud cats.
I guess I'm pretty lucky to have caught four in one month.
I'm not giving up, just a little bewildered.

Gotta find more spots to fish.

Thanks for the other snapper advice.
