I'm 28 years old and last night was the first time I've gotten scared/nervous in a long time.

Last night I was at my brothers house watching the baseball game and it was about 11:00 when I decided to leave. I will add that my brother lives in a nice neighborhood in Lake Charles, across the street from St. Louis HS.

My truck was parked in the driveway unlocked(accidentally)and a privacy fence surrounds the yard, separating the yard from the driveway.

When I walked through the gate, I was about 5 foot from the drive side door when I noticed a mason jar full of a clear liquid on my truck bed rail and a purse hanging on the corner of the fence. when I saw the glass I immediately stopped. I could feel that there was someone around the corner of the fence.

I looked up into my truck and took a step towards the door at the same, when the inside light of my truck turned on and then I saw him. A black man sitting in the driver seat with the door closed, rifling through my console. my mind automatically reminded my of my 357 pistol under the seat and the shotgun underneath the back seat.

Then he began to open the door. I turned around and ran back into the house yelling for my brother. I called the cops and they came pretty quickly. when they got there they confirmed that he stole my pistol that my grandfather had passed down to me, along with some other valuables. They also found a fresh smoked cigarette right at the corner where the purse was hanging.

Later on that night my brother asked me why I didn't grab the guy and I told him I was afraid he was going to shoot me with my own gun. I hope this serves as a lesson to everyone, that no matter what neighborhood you're in, these people are just as brazen as ever.

Be safe out there.

They didn't find him, or at least they haven't notified me that they have.

I have a strong feeling that they had a car.

You made the right call not going after him. A pistol no matter the sentimental value is worth getting killed over IMO.

But you're right, that is a tough lesson. I would have shite my pants.

Damn that sucks. I'm always afraid that if someone bust out my glass they'll use the pitol under my seat against me.

Glad to hear you're okay though. You made the right choice by going inside and not confronting the thug POS.

That won't make the news.

If you had a gun in your possession as a CCL holder would you have approached?

That reminds me of the time a guy jumped in my front seat and pointed a gun at me while I sat a red light.

KR I was completely sober 100% and I felt at that moment I would have drawn my weapon.

With that said, it's hard to say what I would have done given that I have never been in that situation.

My adrenalin shot through the roof when I saw him but I was calm. Shockingly calm.

Do you people not lock your truck doors? I think I can count on my hand the number of times my truck door isn't locked.

I looked straight down the barrel and could tell it was empty. I told him to get the frick out before I pulled out a loaded gun. I didn't even miss my green light.

I'm sure the guy spends a lot of time at the range.

Regardless of whether he could hit the broad side of a barn or not, that's a big risk.
