Cans are strict vegans, why wouldn't you whack them. Wigeon were called robber ducks, cause they'd wait for a can to surface and steal its tuber. Ring necks aren't bad either, but the ones I shoot have been eating tubers. Scaup, bills, dogs, whatever you want to call them are trash, spoonies diet dependant, same can be said for mallards.

We shot a 3 man limit on black jacks yesterday morning, ha ha. But that was what mostly was coming in. Made good practice shooting. Also that is some stupid arse birds.

Diving ducks plus they can be a pain in the arse to retrieve without a dog.

The pond inspectors are certainly easier to kill.

Squealer

What are you calling a "squealer?" You need to hang up your shotgun if you're referring to a wood duck. They're the best eating of them all.

Mexican Squealer = Tree Duck = Squealer = Whistling duck. They are all the same.

Won't eat (Doesn't mean I won't cull the females):
Mergansers
Jacks (ringnecks, ninjas)
Spoonbill if hunted over a lake, but if killed in a rice field, nothing wrong with them.
Squealers
Canvasback. Same scenario as a spoony

If it tasted good I'll kill it. I won't brag about shooting spoonies or dos gris but they taste plenty good to me.

Merganzas and buffleheads are trash. Taste like shite.

Coots are good early in the season before they start eating fish.

That's what my group called em. That and Smiley or Smallard. The spoonbill can be the most "committed" duck ever.

I didn't think Coots ate fish????

Pretty sure Widgeon are called 'robbers' due to the mask around their eyes/across their bill?

Coots down here eat 90% vegetation, not fish, that's why most people eat just the gizzards.

Pretty sure Widgeon are called 'robbers' due to the mask around their eyes/across their bill?

How does one know where the spoon was right prior to shooting his nasty arse? He my ave spent four days nibbling on a dead bream before flying to the rice field.

No, I've had some nasty ones in Ag and in marsh.

I'd never be able to take most of you guys hunting ducks in and around Tampa Bay. You would be seeing birds and not shooting. All we consistently get are Ringers, Whistlers and Scaup. We may get an occasional canvasback, BWT, or Florida duck/Mallard hybrid.

True. I've eaten some good ones killed in the marsh.

I've eaten a lot and I've NEVER eaten a bad one. It's simple. When you pluck them, if they're red, toss. If they're yellow/tan and fat, cook 'em or call me- I'll pluck them on halves.

As for them eating on dead bream, that would be a HUGE step UP for a chicken. You realize chickens will eat their own shyt don't you? Ever eat a bad piece from Popeyes?
