I have a 2000w sportsman inverter. Awesome generator. I can power a full size refrigerator, window unit, and a large 30” fan.

Question: can I run a 2000 and 3500 inverter together? Or it has to be 2000/2000 or 3500/3500?

Idk, it depends on how good those paralleling gizmos are. You need something connecting them to make sure they are synchronized and you would need to check what the capabilities of the chosen gizmo are. It should tell you what you can and can't do.

Sportsman Generator Combo

Home Depot sells a combo kit that combines two different sizes.

Downshift,

Thanks for the info.

Do you have any tips on how long and when to run the fridge during outages?

Like:

4 on; 4 off
12 on during day. 12 off At night and keep closed
Or let it run a gallon for 7 (till quit). 7 off.

No I don't.

What I would do is see how much it cycles during a normal day and call that the max i would run it. If I was trying to stretch fuel, I'd put a thermometer in there and run it when it started getting warm or when my stuff started thawing.

So, kill it when the compressor cycles off, turn it back on whenever it starts getting warm. The air inside will warm up faster than the liquids/solids you are keeping cold so it will be safe that way.

If nobody is opening it, 4 off should be plenty safe and you probably won't need to run it that long to get it to cycle off

Furman makes a lot. That's where I'm at. I have two 3500 predators. One in a box. Thinking of swapping a 2000 for a 3500 and pick up a kit.

Not sure what I would use a 2000 for that I wouldn't use the 3500 for.

Use a thermometer with a probe that you can be read from the outside. Otherwise every time you open the door to check you will lose your cool air.

Add all of the wattage that you want to run. Add 30% to that.
Stagger starting your compressors.

Avoid propane at all cost. You lose about 25% efficiency at the start.
Consumption rates are terrible.

Look it up and do some calculations with wattages, consumption, various sizes of equipment. It’s the only way to learn and understand.

Even if the propane is no good, is it still beneficial to get a dual fuel?

What if you can’t get gas and you’ve got Full propane tanks for the grill laying around?

.

You better have a bunch of them if you plan on running for three days or so.

I realize some folks can’t store a lot of fuel, but that is what you have to do. I usually keep about a hundred gallons but I have the room to store it safely. If it is not used in the generators I use in my truck or boats. Keep them full also.

Using gasoline, the 439cc Champion engine produces 9375 starting watts and 7500 running watts, and will run for 8 hours at 50% load when the 6.0-gallon fuel tank is full. It produces 8400 starting watts and 6750 running watts, and will run for 5.5 hours at 50% load when using a 20-pound propane tank.

Also unless it a catastrophic hurricane you should be able to get fuel. Most stations now have backup generators. But it can be a major pain to wait in line.

Google is your friend, there is a wealth of info at your fingertips.

Our company really helped us buy buying a huge fuel tank and sitting it In the parking lot giving us 10 gallons a day.

If I'd have know that I'd have saved $100 buying extra gas cans I didn't need. Helped a lot.

Sounds like you work for some good folks.

A good source for containers is your local dry cleaners or commercial laundry. They have a nice 16 gallon container that soap is shipped in.

Get one of those neat siphon hose’s with the ball check valve at the bottom. Makes siphoning a cinch.

I have 8 or 9 twelve gallon remote tanks for my boats and a couple of 16’s. Keep every tank in every vehicle, boat etc full and you can’t go wrong.

Most folks don’t have enough 5 gallon propane bottles on hand to run a generator 10 or 12 hours.

I get my propane tanks filled at Tractor Supply. They can't fill them without electricity. If I go to the propane company in the summer time. It's not unusual to have the office lady there but nobody to fill the tank due to lack of demand in the summer. She will tell me to leave the tank and the one summer time propane delivery guy will fill it when he gets back.

So the containers from the dry cleaners are safe for gas?
